5 Essential Tips for Creating a Video Marketing Strategy

One of the best ways to connect with your audience is through video. Video is engaging because it combines audio with imagery. Video is also versatile, allowing you to try new and interesting methods of getting your message across.

As you create a video marketing strategy, here are 5 tips to keep in mind:

1. Set Clear Goals for Your Campaign

What do you hope to accomplish with your video marketing campaign? Establish marketing goals for what you want your videos to accomplish on behalf of your brand. This can be anything as narrow as increasing awareness for a particular product or service, or as broad as positioning your expertise in a niche market.
Determine clear objectives for your campaign and you can craft a strategy that is more effective.

2. Create a Video Aimed at Your Audience

What do you want to communicate to your audience? While clever, entertaining videos may go viral, the question becomes, is that going to achieve your marketing goals. One of the best things you can do is think about what your customers would find useful or informative. Tutorials and how-to videos are very popular because they provide something that others can use.

Keep your goals in mind as you create your video. If you are trying to raise brand awareness, you could produce a video about a contest you are having, and then encourage video responses to your original content. That can get the buzz going for your video campaign, and engage your viewers at the same time.

3. Set Up a YouTube Channel for Your Videos

Anyone can set up a YouTube channel and add videos. YouTube is the second largest search engine. Having your videos on YouTube can be a big opportunity, both for having your video found by searchers on YouTube, as well as in the other search engines.

YouTube makes your videos easy to share. You can embed them on your blog, and in email. Be sure to set your videos and channel so that they are “public” and anyone can embed them. You want to make it easy for others to share your videos. Don’t restrict them so much that others can’t get involved.

4. Don’t Forget SEO

You can optimize your videos so that search engines, especially Google, can find them easily. Carefully choose the right titles and tags. As you upload your videos to your YouTube channel, pay attention to the various fields, including title, description, keywords, and video script. YouTube now allows you to choose a thumbnail to go with your video. Pick one that is attractive and interesting.

5. Promote Your Video in Your Social Media Profiles

Share your video once it’s up. Make sure to include your videos on Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter,  just to name a few. If you embed your video in a post, make sure that you have the social sharing buttons so that readers/viewers can easily pass the video on to their friends. It’s important to do some of the promotion work with your video to get things started.

Have you used video in your marketing strategy? What were your results?

A great post. #1 seems obvious but it so essential. Too often people I encounter business owners who are somewhat interested in creating a video but not sure why (they don’t have any goals in mind). In the end, this stands in the way of them moving forward with a video campaign that could really improve their overall image.
